In September 1969, the state of Ohio rebuilt the road into a straight four-lane highway. On October 19, 1969, five teenagers were tragically killed there when their 1968 Impala was hit by a 1969 Road Runner at more than 100 mph. There was only one survivor, a man named Rick.
Since that day, the intersection has been haunted by a faceless hitchhiker, whom Rick has seen five times.

- Due to rerouting, the actual location of Dead Man's Curve is a topic of debate. Many believe that it's the place where 222 and Bantam Road cross State Route 125, near Amelia, Ohio.
