Background[]
Kerry Walton, the current owner of Letta Me Out, found the doll while visiting his hometown during his grandmother’s funeral in 1972. He was drawn to an abandoned building that had frightened him in childhood and discovered the marionette hidden under the porch. Feeling an inexplicable connection, he decided to take it home. The name “Letta Me Out” is derived from either its European gypsy heritage or the eerie claim that the doll occasionally screams, “Letta me out!”
Walton claims that Letta has moved on its own several times, even in front of witnesses. This includes changing positions while seated and leaving scuff marks on floors—small marks that appear to be made by tiny shoes. There have been reports of unusual sounds emanating from the doll and around Walton’s home, including unexplained thuds and creaks at night. It is said that rain will begin whenever Letta is taken outside, suggesting a peculiar connection between the doll and weather patterns.
Dogs reportedly react aggressively when near Letta, barking incessantly or attempting to attack it. Visitors often report feelings of sadness or fear upon seeing Letta, indicating a strong emotional presence associated with the doll. Various psychics who have examined Letta believe it embodies the spirit of a child who drowned long ago. During one psychic interview with Walton, a clock fell off the wall as they discussed this tragic history.
Trivia[]
- Kerry Walton has embraced Letta’s fame by allowing public appearances where people can meet the doll in person for a small fee. He maintains social media accounts for Letta where updates are shared about appearances and other activities related to this haunted object.
