The Possession of Clarita Villanueva was a case of alleged demonic possession that took place Manila in the Philippines in 1953. Clarita Villanueva, a young woman at the time, claimed to have been possessed by evil spirits, leading to a series of disturbing and unexplained events. The case garnered significant attention from both the public and the media, and it continues to be a subject of interest for those studying paranormal phenomena and religious beliefs.
Description[]
May 9, 1953. After the girl was arrested and taken to a cell for indecent behavior on the street, the local authorities quickly realized that something strange was going on. Clarita suddenly fell into hysterical states, when she screamed and claimed to the police that she was being attacked by invisible beings that only she could see. Somewhere it is said that according to her description, it was "a large dark man with curly hair all over his body" and "a being with an angelic face and a large mustache". Although this description is highly contradictory and contradictory, high-ranking officials were soon to enter the game. The news quickly reached Manila Mayor Arsenio Lacson himself.
Lacson personally went to see Clarita and also brought several experts to observe her. Within the first 15 minutes that Lacson was sitting next to the girl, visible teeth marks began to appear on her body. All those present testified that Clarita could not have caused them herself, as they were standing right next to her and the bites were also in her inaccessible places. With each of these attacks, the girl screamed in pain and reportedly fainted at times. Some of these episodes are also said to have reached the point where Clarita started laughing as if someone had tickled her. However, the doctors concluded that the girl was not mentally disturbed, so they had no explanation for her case.
A certain doctor named Mariano Lara was quite shaken by the events he saw. He also claimed that when he handed Clarite a pencil to draw the likeness of her invisible attackers, it immediately flew out of her hand with an unknown force. Other newspapers reported that in a similar or the same situation, Clarita tried to eat the paper and even the pencil itself and showed very bizarre behavior in general. She would also go into a trance where her body would freeze and the doctors wouldn't respond even when they poked her with a needle. One Australian newspaper claimed that over 100 doctors, police, journalists and other officials were involved in the case, who could not explain the incident and considered it supernatural.
This is what we have left from the reports of various journals and authors who dealt with paranormal phenomena. However, proving these claims is not easy. One source said that at one point in the case, which spanned several consecutive days, Lacson ordered an exorcism to be performed on Clarita. However, there are no details about whether it happened. So relying on newspaper articles (which even differed) in such an event is debatable. Some assumed that it was a real demonic possession, others were more inclined to believe that it was either a hoax or that Clarita was mentally disturbed. On or about May 19, 1953, fortunately for her, the incident finally ended as suddenly as it began. So we can only hope that Clarita got rid of her "demons" for good.
